About Theresa
I have been a nurse for 38 years. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Penn State University. I began my journey into the medical field in 1984 when I enlisted in the US Army Reserves. After Basic training, I went to Fort Sam Houston to be trained as a Combat Medic. A year after I returned to my Reserve Unit, I was accepted into the Army Reserve Practical Nurse's Program. In 2021, I graduated from the Associate's Degree Nursing Program and passed the RN boards.

My teaching style is conversational, with students answering questions as I ask them. When in person, I use a whiteboard to build mind maps, and I also build PowerPoints. I like the give and take of conversational teaching, as that is how I learn.
This is a small example of scripted notes on my PowerPoint on glucose monitoring for High School students:

Essential question: Looking at this week and the topics we covered, can you see how the body systems interact with each other? Can you see how glucose in our blood is connected to our overall body systems?
page 3
Urine Dip Strips: The Early Days Urine Glucose Testing Earliest method for
monitoring blood glucose levels, involving dipping a test strip into the patient's urine.
Limitations: Urine dip strips could only provide a rough estimate of
blood glucose levels, with a significant lag time between
the actual blood glucose levels and the urine test
results. Inconvenient Patients had to collect and
test urine samples, which was inconvenient and often
led to issues with accuracy and consistency. The lack of Immediate
Feedback: Urine dip strips did not provide real-time feedback
on blood glucose levels, making it difficult for patients
