About Josh
Hi, I’m Josh, an Astronomy graduate based on Auckland’s North Shore. I have experience in advanced tertiary-level physics and mathematics, ranging from quantum mechanics and statistical physics to computational mathematics and cosmology.
I know what it's like to feel lost in your education, that sense of knowing you're missing something, but not being sure what it is or how to fix it. This is something many students experience, and it can make a subject or even an entire year feel overwhelming. In my tutoring, I work to identify these gaps and address them step by step, helping students rebuild their understanding and gain confidence in the material.
Throughout my studies, I developed a structured and analytical approach to problem solving, which I now apply in my tutoring. I understand how challenging subjects like math and physics can feel when concepts aren’t fully clear, and I aim to make learning more approachable and less overwhelming.
I’m motivated to tutor because I’ve seen how gaps in foundational understanding and ineffective study habits can hold students back. With the right support and clear explanations, these can be improved, allowing students to build a strong academic foundation and continue progressing with confidence.

Each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs, whether that’s working through current class material, preparing for exams, or strengthening core fundamentals.
I focus on breaking problems down into clear, step-by-step methods so students can understand how to approach questions independently, rather than just memorising solutions. A key part of my approach is identifying gaps in understanding that may be holding students back, and working through those in a structured way.
A typical session involves reviewing problem areas, working through relevant questions together, and then guiding the student through similar problems to build confidence and consistency.
I tutor NCEA Level 1 to 3 maths and physics, and work with students at all levels, from those aiming to pass through to those targeting Merit and Excellence.
