About Vishmi

I am a UWA student studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences with a direct entry into Medicine.

Over the past 3 years, I have tutored three students for philosophy. Under my tutelage, they have been able to improve their argument essay scores from the mid-70s to 100/high 90s, their passage/dialogue analysis results from mid-60s to mid-70s, and their critical reasoning from 70s to 90s.

In terms of tutoring experience overall, I have been teaching 6 subjects for a total of 18 students over the last three years. These students have come from a range of skill levels and age groups. All these students have displayed a significant improvement in their results. Furthermore, I have helped my students to develop and improve a multitude of soft skills such as confidence, work ethic, and creativity. I am extremely proficient in helping students achieve their goals and in helping them develop a love for learning.

I am extremely adept at philosophy and not only enjoy learning it but also teaching it to others. Throughout my upper years of schooling, I provided unofficial tutoring to many of my classmates.

I was the top Philosophy student in WA for ATAR Philosophy & Ethics with a final combined scaled score of 97.5. I was also the top student for philosophy at Perth Modern School for Years 10, 11, and 12.

I have also studied several philosophy units in my degree at UWA.

About the lesson

To teach philosophy there are two primary steps that I use:

Step 1) Content Learning
Teaching students the core philosophical concepts predominantly through with the aid of handouts, links, videos and notes
- This allows for students to understand the concepts that are needed

Step 2) Philosophical Discussion
Leading and directing philosophical discussions so that students can utilize the philosophical concepts that they've learned
- This allows for students to enhance their philosophical thinking skills and generate fresh ideas that will help them stand out in a positive manner

Note: lessons also focus on Critical Reasoning, Passage Analysis & How to Write Philosophical Arguments. These areas can be focused on separately or intertwined with Step 2 according to each individual's preference

As I have recently graduated high school (2019), I have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the WACE course
