About Vicky

I am Swarnayan, a dedicated practitioner of Hindustani Classical music with over 25 years of immersive training rooted in traditional gharana pedagogy.

My musical foundation was shaped through long-term vocal training in the Bishnupur Gharana under the guidance of Pt. Pranay Pathak. This early grounding in classical vocal aesthetics deeply informs my instrumental approach.

My Bansuri training draws inspiration from the Maihar Gharana tradition associated with Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, emphasizing gayaki-ang phrasing, tonal purity, and structural raga development.

This dual exposure — vocal and instrumental — allows me to teach bansuri not merely as a wind instrument, but as a voice-driven medium of expression.

Over the years, I have performed on respected cultural and academic platforms and have guided students with a calm, disciplined, and analytically clear teaching style. My focus is not on rapid results, but on cultivating depth, control, and artistic maturity.

I believe classical music is developed through attentive listening, structured riyaaz, and sustained mentorship — and I work with students who are committed to that journey.

About the lesson

Training is rooted in the Hindustani gharana tradition and follows a disciplined, progression-based methodology designed to develop tonal depth, raga understanding, and refined improvisation.

Foundation: Tone Before Technique

1. Students begin by developing:
2. Correct embouchure and breath mechanics
3. Long-note stability and tonal purity
4. Microtonal pitch alignment
5. Foundational alankars for finger precision
6. Breath is treated as the core of musical expression — not merely airflow, but controlled phrasing.

Gayaki-Ang Approach

Bansuri is trained through vocal aesthetics:
1. Meend (glides) with emotional continuity
2. Gamak and nuanced ornamentation
3. Swara connection and raga phrasing
4. Development of lyrical alaap

The goal is to make the instrument “sing.”

Raga Architecture & Improvisation

As students progress, lessons include:

1. Structural understanding of raga grammar
2. Alaap expansion in vilambit tempo
3. Systematic taan construction
4. Layakari (rhythmic awareness)
5. Presentation of classical compositions

Improvisation is taught as structured thought — not random pattern playing.

Personalized Riyaaz System

Each student receives:

1. A customized daily practice blueprint
2. Technical correction methodology
3. Listening assignments for deeper absorption
4. Long-term developmental planning
