About Pavithra

I started my professional teaching career as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, in 2009, soon after my college graduation. I taught three different courses; analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and environmental and agricultural biochemistry. It was quite challenging as it was the first time teaching college students.The students had heterogeneous backgrounds and I had to devote my time to tailor my teaching approaches to fit each one of them. I truly enjoyed the challenge of working with students with different learning styles and with very different chemistry backgrounds. With thorough preparation and constant thinking about becoming a successful teacher, I became very skilled at teaching multi-disciplinary classes such that students recognized me as one of the best teaching assistants in the Department of chemistry. This led the Department to offer me a lecturer position in 2010. I served the University of Kelaniya as a lecturer until 2011, where I became comfortable speaking in front of large crowds. During my appointment there, I designed a new biochemistry lab manual for the second-year graduate students focusing on common applications. In 2011, I moved to the USA to continue my graduate studies in the Department of Chemistry at Wayne State University (WSU), and I was appointed as a graduate teaching assistant for over four years. My transition to teaching American students was exciting as I learned how to teach in a new culture. My versatile approach towards different teaching needs earned me excellent teaching evaluations and top awards for student teaching at WSU. I was awarded the best graduate teaching assistant award in 2014 and 2016 and the best general chemistry teaching assistant award in 2015. After I graduated with my Ph.D. in 2016, I did two postdoctoral studies and landed my independent carrier as an Assistant Professor in Chemistry at Florida Tech in 2019. Since then, I have been teaching Analytical Chemistry, General Chemistry, Instrumental Chemistry, and Electrochemistry to all levels of college students. So, Chemistry is in my blood, and I am born to teach Chemistry!!

About the lesson

You don't need to know anything about Chemistry to start with me! I will ensure you'll get everything from scratch with all secrets behind chemistry! We will do a lot of questions and practice exams to excel you at each topic. Lessons are mainly targeted at anyone (college students, adults, school kids) seeking help with General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Biochemistry! But, if needed, other divisions of chemistry lessons are also provided. Also, if required, I plan to offer recorded lectures for later use!
