About Troy
A 2012 TAMMY Award Winner for Best Bassist, Troy James Martin grew up in the small town of Sierra Vista, Arizona, which had few bassists, so he was always musically in demand. He moved to Tucson immediately after high school and earned a bachelor’s degree in Radio/Television at the University of Arizona. Troy entered the Tucson music scene briefly in the 1980s, then full-time from 2006 to the present. His bass heroes include Sir Paul, The Ox, Dee Murray, Peter Cetera, Chris Squire, Mike Rutherford, John Wetton and Tony Levin. Troy has been a broadcaster, actor, graphic designer, photographer and choir director.

It’s remarked that a good band can turn heads, but that among the band members it is the bassist that is often most responsible for getting people on the dance floor, or more bluntly, “the bass player is the reason your girlfriend dances.” That’s a lot of power. It’s my job as a bass educator to help you as a budding bassist to tap into that power. I am a Tucson Area Music Awards honoree for best bassist in 2012. I have performed hundreds of live gigs playing everything from rock, to progressive rock, to folk-rock Americana, to country, to blues, to jazz, to funk, and beyond. I have appeared on dozens of recordings crossing multiple genres. I’m available to teach over Zoom students from elementary school ages to as old as you want to go. I cover levels from complete beginner to intermediate. Please contact me to set up time for an initial interview and to schedule lesson times. I look forward to helping you become a bassist, or if you play already, a better bassist.
