About Karly
I am a playwright who studied at the University of Michigan, who has won awards including the Kennedy Center's Undergraduate Playwriting Award. Formal teaching experience includes 1.5 years as a peer advisor at Michigan's Student Center for Writing, in which I analyzed and gave feedback on essays, plays, short stories, and poems written by college students, and a summer camp job teaching creative writing to kids ages 8-11. Informal experience includes editing my younger neighbors' essays and reading Harry Potter with my four year old cousin (the greatest honor of my life).

My approach to teaching writing is 1) making it as collaborative as possible and 2) making it just as exciting. There is no "right" way to write, and I want to empower young writers to explore and strengthen their voices. There is of course structural discipline, especially in academic writing, that I enjoy teaching. But I do not let the rules bog me or my students down--I don't let them forget that at the end of the day, writing is simply the art of expressing yourself.
I specialize in three "categories" of study: creative writing, analysis of texts (books, plays, and poems) and academic essay writing, and SAT prep (minus math). Feel free to mix and match!

I understand life can be crazy and you have to reschedule the tutor! If you do so before 24 hours before the beginning of the lesson, no charge will be incurred. If you do so after 24 hours but 4 hours before the lesson, half of that day's fee will be charged. If notice is given within 4 hours of the expected lesson, that full day's fee will be charged.
