About Paloma
I am an animator, director, and game artist with over a decade of experience working across animation, interactive media, and experimental game design. My work has been supported by major cultural institutions including the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, CALQ, and the Canada Media Fund, and has been exhibited internationally at festivals focused on computer graphics, animation, digital art, and games. I am the recipient of a Canadian Screen Award for Best VR Game, as well as an Audience Choice Award at Cinekid for children’s media, along with several additional awards and nominations. These experiences have allowed me to work at the intersection of art, technology, and storytelling, and to develop a practice that values experimentation, care, and creative risk-taking. I am currently an MFA candidate in the Critical Ecological Practices program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. I previously studied animation and art at Sheridan College and NSCAD University. Teaching and mentorship are an important part of my practice, and I am especially committed to supporting diverse perspectives, queer and non-normative voices, and students who may feel excluded by traditional tech or game education. Above all, I aim to create a supportive learning environment that builds confidence, encourages curiosity, and helps students develop their own creative voice.

My approach as a tutor is grounded in care, curiosity, and creative confidence. I believe people learn best when they feel supported, seen, and encouraged to ask deeper questions. Rather than teaching fixed formulas, I help students develop ways of thinking; critical, imaginative, and ecological, that they can carry into any creative practice.
I work especially well with students who want to go beyond technical execution and explore games as art, storytelling as a form of environmental engagement, and interactive media as a space for experimentation and cultural critique. My methodology blends conversation, hands-on making, reflection, and iterative feedback. I treat learning as a collaborative process rather than a top-down transfer of knowledge.
