About Mark

I am an award-winning organist, conductor, and church musician with more than 50 years of professional experience. My career has included serving churches in major metropolitan areas as organist and choirmaster, directing choirs of children and adults, accompanying, teaching, and performing organ repertoire in a wide variety of settings.

I have taught private students for more than 50 years and enjoy working with musicians at every stage—from pianists encountering the organ for the first time to experienced organists seeking to refine technique, registration, repertoire, and interpretation.

My teaching reflects both the practical demands of professional church music and a lifelong commitment to the organ as a concert instrument. I combine high musical standards with patience, encouragement, and an approach tailored to the individual student.

About the lesson

Organ lessons are tailored to each student’s experience, goals, and musical interests. Instruction may include organ technique, pedal technique, registration, repertoire, hymn playing, service playing, sight-reading, and the practical skills needed by church organists.

I welcome pianists who are approaching the organ for the first time as well as intermediate and advanced organists wishing to strengthen their technique, expand their repertoire, or refine interpretation and registration.

With more than 50 years of professional experience as a church musician and organist, I bring both practical and artistic experience to every lesson. My goal is to develop confident, independent musicians who understand the organ as its own instrument—not simply as a piano with pedals.

Details

In-person organ lessons are offered at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Islip, where students have access to the church’s pipe organ for instruction. Online coaching is also available for repertoire study, interpretation, registration, hymn playing, and other areas that do not require in-person access to the instrument.
