About Dillon
In my time at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I proved something called the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. You may have heard about it in a physics documentary on TV -- it's the principal which states that you cannot know an electron's location and it's velocity at the same time. I also learned RSA cryptography --the principle of leveraging the difficulty of finding the prime factorization of large numbers which underlies all modern digital security. One of the components of that is something called Euler's totient function, which I can explain to anyone at a high school level, if you're interested.
I'm more than knowledgeable enough on the subject, in other words, and I'm eager to share that knowledge.

I am passionate about tutoring mathematics, because I think that mathematics as a subject lends itself to one-on-one tutoring.
Mathematics in a classroom setting is boring. It usually consists of the instructor teaching a formula for solving a certain type of problem, and then the students applying that same formula over and over again. In any class of twenty students, four or five find the mathematics too simple (and therefore boring), and another group are too far behind (and therefore bored). When I was in high school, I remember constantly asking my teacher questions, only to get an answer of, "that's outside the scope of this class." That won't happen in a one-on-one session with me.
I contend that math at any level can be taught in a way that encourages the student to think critically, rather than dictating to them how the problem is solved, and then doing the same type of problem over and over with different numbers. Especially one-on-one tutoring. When I tell people I majored in mathematics, usually the response it, "ugh, I HATE math." But that's a shame, because mathematics is a beautiful thing. And I think through one-on-one tutoring, I can help give people that spark.
