About Elyas
Hi, I’m Elyas, a commercial airline pilot for a major Canadian airline and a Bachelor of Science graduate in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto. My degree sharpened my biology and chemistry skills while my aviation training strengthened my abilities in math, physics and problem solving. That mix of science and technical training is a big part of how I teach.
I tutor biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, advanced functions, functions and all middle school and high school math and science courses. I know a lot of students find these subjects tough or intimidating at first but with clear explanations and the right approach, they become way more manageable, sometimes even fun. My aviation background taught me the value of precision, logical thinking and staying calm when things get complicated and I bring that same mindset into every lesson. I work hard to make complicated ideas simple and approachable and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning at their own pace. That’s how real understanding sticks.

As an Aviator & Science graduate, I bring a practical, real-world perspective to math and science. My teaching is built around the Socratic method — guiding students to discover answers through thoughtful questioning and reasoning. By starting with the fundamental building blocks and progressively working toward more complex ideas, I help students develop true conceptual understanding rather than surface-level memorization.
My Teaching Style & Techniques
I focus on clear, step-by-step reasoning and encourage students to think critically at every stage. Instead of simply providing answers, I utilize the Socratic Method by asking targeted questions that lead the students to uncover the logic themselves. This approach strengthens problem-solving skills, builds confidence and helps students retain knowledge more effectively.
What Sets Me Apart
Drawing on my experience in aviation, I emphasize precision, analytical thinking, and real-world application. I show students how math and science principles connect to everyday situations, from flight dynamics to physics in motion, this makes learning engaging and relevant.
