About Angela

Spanish became a serious part of my life during university, where formal study in language and literature gave me a deep, structured understanding of how the language actually works. That academic foundation shaped how I later approached teaching, always balancing grammar precision with genuine conversational ability. Years spent tutoring students of different backgrounds taught me that no two learners arrive at Spanish the same way. That understanding still guides how personally I plan every single lesson today.

Working with intermediate students alongside adult self-learners means constantly adjusting structure depending on what each person actually needs most. I never assume identical starting points, since self-learners in particular often carry uneven, self-taught knowledge that needs careful reorganizing. What I find most rewarding is watching a student finally connect grammar rules they've studied for months into natural, confident speech. That shift from memorized rules to real conversation is genuinely why I continue teaching Spanish.

I stay closely engaged with the Spanish language personally, through reading, conversation, and ongoing contact with native speakers. This keeps my teaching genuinely current and reflective of how Spanish is actually used today. Lessons often adjust closely around whatever a student personally needs to build real, lasting fluency. My hope remains constant, that students leave speaking Spanish with genuine confidence and clarity.

Spanish lessons with me always begin by figuring out exactly where a student's grammar and vocabulary currently stand, since intermediate learners rarely start from the same place. Verb tenses get reviewed and expanded steadily, building on whatever foundation already exists rather than starting over unnecessarily. Adult self learners often arrive with scattered knowledge picked up from apps or casual study, so early sessions focus on organising that knowledge into something more structured. Conversation practice runs alongside grammar throughout, ensuring rules get applied immediately rather than sitting unused in theory.

As fluency develops, students work through increasingly natural dialogue, practicing everyday topics like work, family and daily routines in genuine Spanish sentences. Intermediate learners particularly benefit from targeted correction here, fixing recurring mistakes before they harden into permanent habits. Adult self learners instead often need structured accountability, since independent study frequently lacks the consistency formal lessons naturally provide. I introduce listening exercises regularly too, training the ear to keep pace with how Spanish actually sounds when spoken naturally.

I remind students constantly that real fluency in Spanish comes from consistent, active practice, not passive review alone. Speaking regularly, even with mistakes, builds confidence faster than waiting until grammar feels fully mastered. Topics stay tied closely to each student's genuine interests, keeping every Spanish lesson relevant and engaging. My focus throughout remains steady, helping students build Spanish skills that hold up in real conversation.
