About Emily

My name is Emily Johnson but you can call me EJ, I am in my mid 20’s and am located in Bay of Plenty.

I have certificates within art and graphic design and have my bachelors in creative industries. I studied with Yoobee media school and Toi Ohomai. I also studied to be an art teacher but due to personal health problems I couldn’t finish the degree. Through my studies I was able to learn all kinds of art forms from pencil to paint to clay.

I personally specialise in character design, portrait art and graphic novels. My main art materials I use are pencil and digital art. My style ranges from hyper realism to a cartoon style. I understand all that is to do with drawing face and the body, including motion and expressions. Shading and colouring is another specialty of mine that aids in all forms of art. I enjoy painting and using clay aswel.

I am extremely creative and have a wide imagination. I am Neurodivergent so I can really connect to other creatives. My mind is always tuned into art and I focus on all the small details. I love to share my passion and enjoy seeing people succeed within the art world. I am a big kid at heart and hope to make art and teach art for the rest of my life.

I myself would have benefited from this kind of art tutoring because I discovered my own art style at a young age and struggled to develop and understand it before moving onto studying art in University.

About the lesson

I hope to aid students from ages 10-17 in their specific art interests that aren’t targeted within school.
I have specialised knowledge in todays mainstream art inspirations that are promoted within online platforms, movies and tv shows and games.
I will teach art techniques specific to their interest and expand their knowledge on materials, equipment, and background knowledge of their art style.
Together we will learn and investigate the interest and create a piece of art that highlights all their learnings.
I have all kinds of art materials that will suit any special interest. I have an iPad and the program procreate to teach on, plenty of high quality pencils and paper as materials. And I have acrylic, watercolour and gouache paints along with canvas and paintbrushes to be used.
The first lesson is free and is used to discuss the students art interest and explore privies work along with developing a personalised tutoring experience that targets the students needs and wants.
From there, each lesson will be broken down into different target points that will aid in the completion of a piece that details all that has been learnt.
