About Barry

When I was growing up, I entered a 5-state piano competition (TX; NM; CO; OK; AR) for 11-17 year olds. It was a concerto competition. I was 11 and placed 3rd in that competition. My senior year in high school, I was the accompanist for the Women's Choir at Irving High School (I got Physical Education (P.E.) credit for it that year)! I won the "Chopin Piano Competition for Dallas Area Seniors" that same year! When I auditioned for a music scholarship at Hardin-Simmons University, I was aiming at a vocal scholarship but after auditioning they asked if I played the piano and I said "Yes" and they asked me to play and then asked if I would consider a scholarship in piano studies. I turned it down because I was planning on being a choir director. They offered me the highest scholarship in music they had to offer, anyway!

I played the trombone from 6th grade through 9th grade in an award-winning band program in the Richardson Independent School District. It was there that I developed a passion for conducting, both instruments and choirs.

Vocally, I made superior ratings in solos and ensembles at the regional and state levels all three years in high school. I was also inducted into District and Region Choirs all three years. My Junior and Senior years in high school I was a alternate for the All-State Choir. My Senior year, I was an alternate as 3rd chair in the Bass 1 section!

I have a 9 year old puppy Yorkie by the name of Paisley whom I love with all my heart! I also have two grown children (1 boy; 1 girl) who have their own lives in different parts of the state. My mom and dad are both musicians as is my sister.

About the lesson

Hi, my name is Barry. I teach private piano and private voice lessons. I have many years, also, teaching high school choir and accompanying Solo & Ensemble competitors in voice, band and orchestra.

I would love to teach you private piano or private voice lessons. My rate is $40/half hour or $75/hour.

I would also love to help you prepare for Solo & Ensemble Contests by coaching you and accompanying you. Price TBA depending on your needs.

Here are my credentials:
* BME from HSU in Abilene with a primary in voice and a secondary in piano;
* MCM from SWBTS, Fort Worth;
* 30 hours toward a DMA from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ.
* I also have many years of accompanying soloists and choirs. In fact, I have the distinct privilege of having performed on stage at Carnegie Hall as accompanist for the Odessa High School Choir!
