About Toby
I am a band musician who plays both lead and rhythm on the electric guitar (and I dabble in bass guitar!) although I started out my musical journey on classical and acoustic guitar. I have been playing guitar for over 12 years and in the time have explored a variety of genres, styles and techniques that have all shaped my current style!
I love virtually every genre of music and being able to comfortably pick up my instrument and play whatever and whenever I want is a wonderful feeling that I love to share with my students. There's no better feeling than seeing someone nail a tricky piece they've been working on for the first time!

I offer a comprehensive and entertaining style of guitar tutoring, tailored to the student's needs - whether this be theory-focused, learning songs, or simply expanding their ability on their chosen instrument. I am equally happy teaching both acoustic and electric guitar, and similarly enjoy exploring rhythm and lead styles as I think they are both necessary aspects of a well-rounded guitar player.
I believe in a ground-up style of teaching where concepts are explained holistically, allowing the student to not only understand what works, but *why* it works. In my experience this develops technique and ability far quicker than simply revising chord shapes or scales for the sake of it and allows for a flexible lesson plan that is less likely to get boring for the student!
A typical lesson will last anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours, although I understand for younger students they may start to lose focus past the hour mark and would not recommend 2 hours for them.
My lessons are tailored for those starting out or for students who have been playing for several years at a basic level and wish to explore and improve their playing!
Although I have no formal teaching experience, I have a several years of tutoring experience under my belt and have worked with many beginners in the past, all of whom have seen rapid improvements in their playing and have expressed to me how much they enjoyed my lessons!
