About Jason
Do you want to learn to play clarinet, bass clarinet, or saxophone?
Are you...
A child (or adult!) just beginning?
An intermediate player that wants to develop further?
An adult that hasn't played in a long time and wants to again?
A theatermaker that wants to add something to your performance?
A musician that wants to learn to double?
A music college student that wants to broaden your knowledge with contemporary music and extended techniques, such as circular breathing, slap tonguing and multiphonics?
I can help! Tuition for all ages and playing levels is accepted, and lessons are tailored to what YOU want to learn. My teaching philosophy is to make playing music enjoyable, so it's important to find music that YOU want to learn. That can be classical, pop, jazz, folk music, klezmer… whatever you like! If you'd like to go through the grading system, great. If you just want to play for yourself, no problem! If you're in music college or already a professional and need some specialist training, fantastic!
I've been teaching for over 20 years to my own private students, at music schools, as an after-school tutor, and in group lessons as part of the Dutch and UK primary school curriculum. Additionally, I have lectured and given masterclasses at the university level.
I hold 4 music degrees up to Doctoral level from music conservatoires in the UK, Netherlands, and United States, and am an internationally recognized bass clarinet and contemporary music specialist. I myself play in various ensembles, from classical to jazz, and improvisation to afrobeat.
Interested? Call or email for a lesson at my studio in East London (greatly preferred, but possible to travel if the circumstances require).
Lesson times, duration, and regularity are flexible to your needs.
Enhanced DBS (CRB) Certificate.

I have been learning jazz saxophone from Jason for over 5 years and have enjoyed my lessons with him. Jason is an experienced and accomplished musician who is very happy to share his knowledge and skills. He is good at adapting his teaching approach to meet my needs and interests. Jason has an excellent ear and sense of rhythm and gives me very focussed feedback on my playing and provides helpful suggestions on to how to practice more effectively to improve my playing. He has helped me to improve my technique, playing from musical scores as well as developing my listening skills and playing by ear. He has also provided useful approaches to improvisation, following chord changes as well as playing more intuitively.
I started saxophone as a mature adult about 10 years ago. I transferred to Jason's tutelage almost five years ago as I wanted to find a teacher who performed or taught genres other than jazz. My lessons have been tailored to my own interests of classical and folk music. As well as being an expert performer, Jason has a very wide musical knowledge, and has constructive comments and suggestions not just in my lessons, but also in any other musical queries I bring, from Balkan music to early recorder music to dulcimer tuning. Above all, the lessons are most enjoyable.
