About Tim
My love for teaching began during my days as a Chemistry tutor at UNT. I find immense satisfaction in helping others learn and feel confident in a new subject. My own musical journey started at age 11 when I first fell in love with the viola. Throughout high school, I competed in several state competitions and continued to play throughout college, building my skills over 13 years of experience. Along the way, I taught myself to play by ear, which allowed me to bring the power of music to others by playing with my classmates in hospices and weddings. This experience has given my abilities as a violist a deeper sense of purpose: using music as a tool for healing and connection. I am passionate about sharing this love for the viola and helping new students of all ages discover the joy and healing power of music.

I believe that learning an instrument should be an enjoyable and rewarding journey. My lessons are designed for child and adult beginners who are ready to explore the beautiful sounds of the viola and violin. As a Doctor of Physical Therapy Student, I've learned how to break down complex concepts into simple steps, and I apply this same philosophy to teaching music.
We'll start by mastering the fundamentals and get you playing beginner-friendly songs you'll be excited to share! We'll build a strong foundation by learning proper technique, essential music theory, and how to read sheet music in a way that’s simple and engaging. I combine the lessons I learned as a child with my years of playing to provide a personalized, supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace.
As an added benefit, my background in rehabilitation allows me to provide knowledge on how to prevent common wrist and finger injuries. I've had the pleasure of treating many string instrument players in the clinic, so I know the importance of healthy technique. We'll focus on comfortable playing from day one, so you can enjoy a lifetime of making music.
