About Colton
Playing my first recital at 14 remains a vivid memory of the stage lights reflecting off the piano keys. These 13 years spent teaching have shaped my perspective on the deep connection between arm weight and tonal clarity. I focus on posture and hand position as the foundation for any musical expression.
Sight reading and ear training are integrated into our study to ensure you develop as a complete musician. Scales and arpeggios serve as the scaffolding for my pedagogical approach.
I emphasize rhythm and timing to build a reliable internal pulse. Sight playing and jazz improvisation also feature heavily in the toolkit I provide to my students. It is a pleasure to help you find your own musical voice through the tradition of Neuhaus and Perelman. Please reach out to begin this journey together.

Many students struggle with tension that prevents them from producing a rich and resonant sound. You might find that your tone thins out when playing faster passages or complex harmonic textures.
I address these issues by analyzing your physical mechanics to ensure you use your body weight efficiently. These 10 minute technical warmups set the stage for a productive hour of repertoire work.
Studying at The Juilliard School taught me that sound quality is the primary objective of any pianist. We prioritize a deep, singing tone before we consider speed or virtuosic display.
This 7 minute focus on intentional touch ensures you build a sustainable foundation. You will leave the bench feeling more capable and physically relaxed than when you arrived. I look forward to hearing the music you create.
