I taught in a school called Every Child Counts in the Bahamas during a time when our schools were instituting lots of standardized testing. I was blessed to have had time to teach gym and art. When I returned to the US, I coached soccer, skiing and sailing. My first coaching job was at an all women's Catholic school and I was hired to coach sprints and jumps. I studied Howard Gardner, Jean Piaget, Eric Ericson and Rudolf Steiner at Bates College and at the University of New England while in pursuit of my 6th-12th grade Teaching Certificate and my Gifted and Talented Certificate. After teaching in a gifted and talented classroom and in several one room school houses and classes, I returned to graduate school to study Curriculum Development and
the Integrated Arts at Lesley University. My classmates and I had a blast creating creative curriculum to test out with our students. Since I moved to Virginia, I graduated from the Lefcoe Leadership class and taught at Sail Nauticus, an organization that teaches at risk youth to sail.
I started teaching sailing as a certified Level 1 sailing instructor at age 19. I quickly obtained my First Aid and CPR certification and my Level 2 to pursue another great opportunity in Southern Maine. I'm also Level 1 skiing certified and have a certificate in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, a certificate which prepared me well for an internship at MPR. My first teaching opportunity came when I was 23, I had the chance to teach Shakespeare to Seniors at an all women's school. I continued on to teach in multiple gifted and talented classrooms, one room schools and special needs classrooms and schools. I'm always humbled by how much I have to learn. Each year I taught, I taught around 75/150 students. When I opened my home tutoring business 14 years ago, I had a small business and a big heart and that is what I have today. I look forward to working with you.
I tutor from home and from two satellite locations. One is in Portsmouth and the other is in Norfolk, so it is best for me to tutor from these locations.
I would consider traveling to a home location for a student with exceptional needs. I work well with students with exceptionalities.

My most memorable award was given to me at basketball camp. Out of 1,000 players the coaches saw that I truly was there to work hard and improve. I believe this is what tutoring is about, seeing your true potential and inherent gifts and putting them to the test.
I met Brooke on a personal basis, several years ago. I found her caring, compassionate and a pleasure to be with. She is great with kids too. As a teacher, I feel that her patience and understanding will go a long way.
