About Mathew
I am a Grade 11 learner at St Benedict’s College, averaging 8 distinctions (including AP Mathematics) and serving as a member of the Johannesburg Junior Council. I have faced the challenges of high school academics, time management, and balancing extracurriculars, but have learned to overcome them through effective study techniques and disciplined planning. My lessons aim to aid learners who battle with retaining knowledge, time management and fully grasping subject content by introducing them to methods that are both scientifically proven and have allowed me to stay consistent and up to date with my studies without sacrificing sports or cultural activities.
I aim to understand each learner’s unique situation and academic struggle, and work with them to find practical, personalised strategies that suit their learning style. My teaching is very interactive, with a focus on building both confidence and independence in the subject so that learners can find solutions to their academic challenges now and can be prepared to adapt to any future situations. Lessons are available in English, for Grade 7–11 students in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
A typical lesson includes a short review of prior work, focused explanation of new concepts, active practice with guidance, and feedback on how to improve. I encourage developing problem-solving skills they can apply independently by themselves.
