In terms of my teaching philosophy, I have come to find that at any level, regardless of age, encouraging students to partake in group and partner work aids in fostering positive communication. Interaction in the classroom is a critical component of foreign language development. By utilizing the three different modes of communication, interpersonal, interpretive and presentational, students are then able to build upon their communicative competence, as well as their social skills. One of the methods I have chosen to follow in terms of my teaching pedagogy is the Communicative Language Teaching method. This philosophy utilizes authentic and meaningful materials in the target language that students at any level will find relevant and interesting. Similarly, I consider scaffold learning to be an instrumental method in teaching a foreign language. As a teacher, I constantly evaluate my students’ progress while also gradually increasing my expectations regarding their performance. By doing so, I maintain the responsibility of encouraging my students to begin using more sophisticated levels of critical thinking, eventually increasing their language proficiency level. Essentially, through my teaching practices, I strive to foster students’ communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills, while also promoting a positive learning environment through the use of creative and interactive activities.
