About Simon

Hi!

I’m Simon from Sydney, Australia and I love my guitar(s)!

I’ve been playing for 25 years and teaching for over 10 years.

I don't have any fancy degrees, but I do have a LOT of experience playing guitar on stage (and at home!)

I've been super lucky to support bands like The Black Keys, Blondie, Kaiser Chiefs and many more International acts, as well as playing lots of music festivals like The Big Day Out having toured constantly around Australia as a working musician for years.

It's given me a unique perspective on the guitar which is different from other teachers. I’ve taken guitar lessons where it’s just no fun. I’d rather be anywhere else. Endless theory books. Endless boring exercises. No thanks. My aim is for us to learn your favourite songs, and along the way pick up the techniques you need to play them.

I also teach songwriting fundamentals and composition. With a stint at EMI Music Publishing I wrote songs with some of Australia’s premiere pop and rock writers lke Shannon Noll and Shane Nicholson. I was also a songwriting coach at the 2012 APRA Song Summit at the Sydney Convention Centre.

AGE GROUPS:
All ages are welcome!

WHERE:
Online webcam lessons, or private tuition at my home in Bethnal Green. I am located a 5 min walk from tube and overground stations.

INSTRUMENTS:
Acoustic guitar.
Electric guitar.
Bass Guitar.

GENRES:
Mainly Rock, Indie, Pop, Punk, and Funk.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?:
Fundamental techniques to get you up and running (or running more) as soon as possible.
Song learning - how to listen to a song and work out the basic chord structure in minutes.
Using and understanding amplifiers and pedals
Fret board mastery
Help in how to develop your own band and playing with other musicians.

FIRST LESSON:
We’ll have a chat to get to know each other and to work out what you want to gain out of the lessons. We will then look at an introduction to the instrument, correct technique and a basic goal to take away to work on. I also include some hint sheets after every lesson so you can practice at home knowing you have all the help you need.
