About Cathleen
Truthfully, the transition from acting to teaching piano happened when I realized so many performers lacked the autonomy to accompany themselves. Balancing rhythm and timing with complex chord voicing remains a hurdle for many theater professionals.
I bring 12 years of experience to this craft, having guided 169 students through their musical development. My BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts informs how I connect theory to the stage.
I focus on pedaling technique, dynamics, and expression to make your playing sound professional. We explore pop and contemporary styles, sight reading, and classical repertoire to round out your skills. I also provide dedicated grade exam prep for ABRSM and Trinity boards. I look forward to seeing your musicianship flourish as we build your unique performance style.

Admittedly, I find that most students struggle because they treat music theory as a dry set of rules rather than a language for expression. By connecting your piano technique directly to your BFA training, I help you see the keyboard as an extension of your vocal performance. We incorporate chord voicing and rhythmic precision so that your self accompaniment feels like an organic part of your artistry. My lessons utilize the theory I learned at NYU Tisch to ensure your practice sessions remain efficient and logical.
My background allows me to simplify complex dynamics and pedalling techniques for any level of learner. You will find that sight reading becomes less intimidating once we apply it to current pop or classical pieces. We aim for a level of comfort that allows you to perform without hesitation. I am confident we will make your practice time feel remarkably productive.
