About Alexa
I teach elementary students full time and also work one-on-one with students who want extra support in reading. Because teaching is my day-to-day work, I’m comfortable explaining ideas clearly, breaking down texts step by step, and helping students build confidence over time. In our sessions, I create a calm, supportive space where you can ask questions, make mistakes, and learn at your own pace. My goal is to help you feel more confident and capable as a reader each time we work together.

My reading lessons are structured and intentional, but always calm and student-centered. Each session begins with a quick check-in and a clear goal (for example, understanding a passage, identifying the main idea, or explaining thinking with evidence). I typically use short texts or excerpts so students can focus deeply without feeling overwhelmed.
During the lesson, I guide students through the text using targeted questions, think-alouds, and step-by-step support. Students practice explaining their thinking out loud, answering “how” and “why” questions, and using details from the text to support their ideas. I adjust the level of support in real time—modeling when needed and gradually releasing responsibility as students gain confidence.
These lessons are best for elementary students who struggle with comprehension, need help organizing their thinking, or feel anxious about reading. My approach is clear, structured, and low-pressure, helping students leave sessions feeling more capable and less stressed about reading. Homework or basic math support can be included when appropriate.
