About Isaac

Hi, I’m Isaac!

I’m a Computer Science student at Toronto Metropolitan University, and I’m bilingual in English and French. I love helping students discover that French can be fun, not just a subject to survive.

I’ve been tutoring since 2022, and I spent a term supporting students in French at an elementary school in Toronto, working with small groups across different grade levels. I know how to adapt to different ages, learning styles and paces, and I’ve seen how quickly confidence grows when the pressure comes off.

I remember what it’s like to feel lost in a class, so my lessons are patient, encouraging and judgment-free. Mistakes are part of learning, and no question is too small.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Isaac

How I teach

We start with the student. In the first session I get to know the student: their interests, what they enjoy, and what feels hard about French. A comfortable student talks more, and talking is how languages are learned. I then build my examples around what they like, whether that’s games, sports, animals or music.
Understanding first, then the rules. I explain why French works the way it does (how sounds, spelling and sentences fit together) so reading and writing stop feeling like guesswork.
Guiding questions, not answers. I ask questions that lead the student to the answer themselves, which builds real confidence.
Learning to find answers. I teach simple habits for looking things up, such as using a dictionary and checking the text, so they become more independent.

A typical lesson (45 to 60 minutes)

10 min: Friendly check-in, plus a quick review
20 min: New concept through reading, speaking and examples
15 to 20 min: Guided practice (reading aloud, writing, conversation)
5 to 10 min: Recap and a small goal for the week

The first session is mostly about getting to know the student and finding their level.

What sets me apart
I’ve worked directly with students in a school setting, where the teacher noticed more engagement from the students I supported. I’m bilingual, so I can explain in English when something is confusing and then move back into French as the student gains confidence.
