About Melissa

Hi! I’m a bilingual Biochem graduate from the University of Ottawa, and I’ve been tutoring students for over 9 years. I’ve always loved helping people understand concepts that initially seem difficult or frustrating, and Math is definitely my favorite subject to teach!

I’m a patient and approachable person, and I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and taking their time to understand something. I really enjoy finding different ways to explain a concept until it finally clicks.

I recently moved to Vancouver, BC, and I’m excited to continue tutoring and meet new students here! Outside of tutoring, I’m a huge cat lover and a proud cat mom to two cats. I also love learning new things, solving problems, and spending time with the people (and cats!) I care about.

I hope to create a friendly, relaxed environment where students can not only improve academically, but also become more confident in their abilities.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized to each student’s needs, level, and learning style. I believe the best tutoring happens when students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and taking the time they need to truly understand the material.

Math is my specialty and my favorite subject to teach, but I also offer tutoring in Science, English, and French. I work with students from elementary school through university and can adapt lessons depending on their goals, whether that’s improving grades, preparing for a test or exam, keeping up with coursework, completing homework, or strengthening foundational skills.

With over 9 years of tutoring experience, I’ve worked with students with a wide range of academic needs and learning styles, including students with special learning accommodations. I take the time to identify where a student is struggling and find different ways to explain the material until it clicks.

I can help with explaining difficult concepts, working through practice problems, homework and assignments, test and exam preparation, study strategies, and filling gaps in previous material. I also offer tutoring in both English and French.

I offer remote tutoring as well as in-person sessions in Vancouver, depending on location and availability.

My goal is not just to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand why the answer is right, build confidence, and become more independent in their learning.
