About Erik

Hey everyone! My name is Erik Verhelst and I am a recent biochemistry graduate from the University of Manitoba! I have tutored several STEM subjects at the undergrad level in the past including (you guessed it) biochemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and microbiology! I also have tutored at the high school level (grades 9-12) in chemistry, biology, physics, and general sciences.

About the lesson

I like to teach from the "ground up", meaning that I will start with simple examples from the subject I tutor and gradually build complexity in order to maximize student learning opportunities. I like to get to know student's interests so I can relate the lesson to what the student is interested in. A typical lesson plan from me includes a short review of previous material, then fulfilling the main learning objectives of the session and ending with a short ending review to solidify the concepts. My lessons are targeted towards undergraduates in biochemistry although I am absolutely capable of tutoring at the high school and elementary levels as well! I believe what sets me apart is my commitment to student understanding as well as trying to make my lessons fun. I actively listen to student feedback in order to improve future lessons.
