About Blake
Hi, I'm Blake! I'm a biochemistry major at BYU and an undergraduate researcher in the Jensen Lab, where I use cryo-electron tomography to image bacterial flagellar motors inside cells. I'm also preparing for medical school and the MCAT, so I spend a lot of time reviewing and connecting chemistry, physics, biology, and math.
I love helping students go from "I'm totally lost" to "oh, that actually makes sense." Having recently worked through these same courses, I remember what was confusing at first and what finally made it click. I'm patient, organized, and focused on helping you build real understanding and confidence, not just get through the next assignment.

I'm a biochemistry major at BYU and an undergraduate researcher in a structural biology lab, so I use the math, physics, and chemistry I teach every day. I tutor algebra through calculus, introductory physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.
My approach: I focus on understanding over memorization. Before we dive in, I figure out exactly where you're getting stuck, then rebuild the concept from the ground up using simple analogies and drawings. Once the idea clicks, we work practice problems together, and then you solve some on your own while I coach, so you leave able to do it without me.
A typical lesson:
1. Quick check-in on your class, upcoming exams, and what's confusing you
2. Clear explanation of the key concept, connected to things you already know
3. Worked examples, step by step
4. Practice problems you solve while I give feedback
5. A short recap and a plan for what to review before next time
What sets me apart: I've recently taken these exact courses myself, so I know where students usually struggle and which study strategies actually work. I'm also preparing for the MCAT, so I'm fluent in connecting chemistry, physics, and biology, which is especially helpful for pre-med and science students.
Who it's for: high school students, college students in intro or upper-level science courses, and anyone preparing for exams like the ACT, SAT, or MCAT science sections. Lessons can be tailored to your class syllabus, homework, or test prep.
