About Thinara
I’m a student tutor who understands what it feels like to be stuck, stressed, or unsure where to start—because I’ve been there recently too. That’s why my sessions are structured, supportive, and focused on real improvement, not just “getting through homework.”
In lessons, I explain concepts clearly, then we practice together using active recall and targeted questions so you can actually remember what you learn. I break down problems step-by-step, show you how to spot patterns, and teach you how to check your own work. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling more confident and more independent.

My teaching approach is grounded in active learning, not passive memorization. I focus heavily on:
• Practice problems that gradually increase in difficulty, allowing students to build confidence step by step.
• Active recall, where students explain concepts back to me in their own words or solve problems without notes, reinforcing long-term understanding.
• Guided problem-solving, where I model thought processes first, then gradually remove support so students become independent.
• Error-based learning, treating mistakes as learning tools and breaking down why an answer is wrong, not just what the right answer is.
I emphasize understanding how and why concepts work, rather than rote learning, which helps students apply knowledge in tests and unfamiliar questions.
Typical Lesson Structure:
My lessons are content-heavy but highly interactive, tailored to one-on-one learning.
A typical session includes:
1. Quick diagnostic check – identifying what the student already knows and where gaps exist
2. Concept explanation – breaking down material using clear language, analogies, and visual reasoning
3. Guided practice – solving problems together, with increasing student responsibility
4. Independent practice – student attempts problems while I provide targeted feedback
5. Active recall & recap – summarizing key ideas and strategies at the end of the lesson
Lessons are flexible and adapt to the student’s pace, whether the goal is mastering content, exam preparation, or catching up on missed material.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
What distinguishes me is that I am a student myself. I have very recently been in the same position as my students, preparing for exams, struggling with concepts, and figuring out effective study strategies.
This allows me to:
• Explain concepts in a way students actually understand, not overly academic language
• Be more empathetic, patient, and attentive to individual struggles
• Offer practical, realistic advice on studying, time management, and exam strategies
• Create a comfortable, judgment-free environment where students feel safe asking questions
I am especially attentive in one-on-one settings, ensuring students feel heard and supported rather than rushed or overlooked.
Who My Lessons Are For:
My tutoring is designed primarily for middle school to high school students, including:
• Grades 6–12
• Students in academic, applied, or enriched streams
• Learners preparing for tests, exams, quizzes, or foundational skill-building
• Students who need extra support, confidence-building, or personalized pacing
• High-achieving students looking to strengthen problem-solving and reasoning skills
I tailor lessons based on:
• The student’s grade level and curriculum
• Their learning style (visual, verbal, step-by-step)
• Specific goals such as exam prep, catching up, or advancing ahead of class material
