My teaching method is based on understanding concepts through practice problems, the use of analogies to make the concepts more accessible, and step-by-step instruction for problems. I believe firmly in a deep understanding of each concept separately from the individual questions--knowing not only the equation but why the equation works. I find that this makes the problems easier to work through, as the concepts apply and come together like pieces of a puzzle rather than a scrambling of random numbers.
One of my greatest passions in life is sharing the love of chemistry with students--even those who find it to be taxing and overwhelming. I have been working with students in both AP Chemistry and normal Chemistry for 3 years. I have primarily worked with seniors who are failing the course, and so far have brought 30 total students from a failing grade to graduation!
I met Noorjahan while working at the climbing wall; it was my first time working at a wall and I felt nervous and uncertain being surrounded by people who knew so much. That disappeared immediately once I met Noor. Her ability to make anyone feel comfortable is such a key element to her teaching skills and who she is as a person. Noor would always take time to teach me more about the world of climbing, answering my questions, no matter how many I asked. She would challenge me to always think harder, but never push me to where I was uncomfortable. Noors ability to understand people and what they need to be successful continues to blow my mind. I am lucky to call her a friend. Every day she teaches me new things about the world, climbing, and philosophy.
Noorjahan, who goes by Noor and I met mutually through some friends of ours to go rock climbing. It was my first time on a rock wall and we were climbing outside. Knowing that she was an instructor/experienced climber prior to me going made me feel better about the whole experience, although I wasn’t totally sold on her abilities. Her instruction and teaching abilities were some of the best I have ever witnessed. She is incredibly patient and professional. Her teaching method is very calm and sweet. She walks you through every little detail over and over again ( which was incredibly nice since mistakes on a rock wall can mean serious injury or death). I trusted her to teach me to climb and climb safely, and she did more than enough to earn that trust. She is a wonderful teacher and an even more pleasant person. I wouldn’t write a more positive recommendation for just about anyone else.

Noorjahan tutored my 10th grade daughter Sierra in Honors Chemistry last quarter. She is a kind, patient person, who interacts well with kids of all ages. She understand HS chemistry well, and isn't too far removed from it, so that she can still understand how it is being taught today. Overall, Noorjahan is a great teacher, I highly recommend her.
