About Laura
I am a Biomedical Science student at Newcastle University with A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Spanish. I have been interested in teaching/tutoring since January 2018 when I began volunteering through my university. I am a volunteer tutor and primarily teach English on a one to one basis to refugees and asylum seekers who have found themselves in the Newcastle area. I am happy to adapt to the needs of my learners and as such have tutored them in Maths and in small groups. The Maths tutoring has ranged from level one functional skills up to GCSE Level.
My proudest achievement as a tutor was when one of my learners achieved full marks on an English language exam he had been struggling with. The satisfaction and joy felt upon hearing this is indescribable!

I am very learner led and can adapt to the needs of the person I am tutoring/cater my teaching style and content to what they desire. I am confident teaching both one to one and small groups.
I like to begin my lessons with a short activity to gauge the learners knowledge on that topic. The activity is repeated at the end of the lesson to measure learner progress and build their confidence.
I achieved A*'s in my Maths GCSE and all 3 Sciences along side an A in further Maths GCSE. As such, I am confident tutoring up to this level.
