About Catherine
Ivory keys feel different when you understand the mechanics beneath the surface after 13 years on the concert stage. My pedagogical roots trace back to a Juilliard lineage, which I apply across 9 years of instruction in everything from jazz improvisation and chord voicing to classical repertoire. Students frequently excel in ABRSM and Trinity grade exams, mastering scales and arpeggios or sight playing with technical precision.
Posture and hand position remain central to my practice, ensuring that memorization techniques are intuitive rather than forced. Pacing remains deliberate because I track every student's movement through a detailed report shared with parents every month. This rhythm allows us to address Czerny etudes while reserving space for pieces that genuinely resonate with the individual, all within a 60 minute frame.
My Curtis Institute background informs the way I explain complex musicality without resorting to jargon. Correction happens in real time, though I remain unhurried during our 10 hours of weekly studio time. You will find that these sessions value accuracy alongside the joy of performance.
