About Arran

I taught two teenage girls whilst on my year abroad in Genoa, Italy. We focused the lessons around topics that they found hard at school and sometimes through spontaneous conversation. One girl successfully applied to Genoa's international school after having had classes with me.

You can feel at ease with me as your teacher; as a linguist I understand how it can be frustrating or embarrassing to feel like you're 'getting it wrong' at first, but there is no 'getting it wrong' in language learning. You need to make mistakes in order to succeed. It is all about trial and error and building up your confidence through speaking. I will gently point out mistakes and praise your successes! I think that boosting my students' confidence is the key to progression.

About the lesson

I will help students or pupils of English with grammar, vocabulary or pronunciation queries.

I was fascinated by French at school, studied languages at sixth-form and then completed an undergraduate degree in French and Italian with a year in Italy. I am currently enrolled on a MA in Interpreting and Translation (both French and Italian) at the University of Leeds. During my year abroad in Italy I taught English conversation classes to two teenage girls and successfully prepared one of them for the international school in Genoa.

Thanks to my love of languages, I am better prepared than most native English speakers to help you with your language queries. Rather than preparing lessons, I will focus lessons around your needs and what you need help with. You can use a course book that you are currently using in class or bring up topics that you struggle with.

Ideal for learners of English who need help from an approachable and passionate student that can relate to the difficulties of learning a language!
