About Emsie
To get to the University of Warwick, I had to work extremely hard. I have always felt that while some people naturally “get” learning, I had to work twice as hard as others to achieve the same results. That experience in fact shaped the way I approach both learning and teaching. While hard work absolutely matters, I also learnt how powerful it is to have a teacher who genuinely enjoys what they are teaching, makes learning engaging, and sets clear, achievable goals. Personally, I think it makes motivation come much more naturally.
Through helping my 11-year-old brother, as well as many secondary-school students I babysit for, I discovered that I have a real ability to break down what needs to be taught and then communicate it in a way that feels enjoyable. As work becomes more advanced, I am also confident in identifying useful structural techniques — particularly for essays — that can be applied across the subject and help students feel more in control of their progress.
Outside of academics, I am a very social and motivated individual. I am involved in several university societies, including Netball and Snow Society, and I enjoy starting my days early with the gym or the sauna. As a member of Warwick’s Finance Society, I aspire to pursue a future in this field, which strongly values research, discipline, and problem-solving — skills I continue to develop through both my studies and tutoring.

As an older sister and a sibling to brothers with Attention Deficit Disorder, I have lived my life learning how to communicate effectively with people who may sometimes struggle with focus. I am absolutely thrilled by the idea of being able to guide students to better understand their work at both GCSE and A-level standard.
As a regular babysitter for many families in my area with children around this age group, I am very familiar with adapting my communication and tone to be engaging.
For context, in terms of A-levels, I am confident helping with Psychology, Philosophy, and French. At GCSE level, I can support Maths, English, Triple Science/Combined Science, French, Geography, and Religious Studies.
As I am currently studying a Psychology BSc at the University of Warwick, lessons would be delivered online via call or Zoom, and as a first-year student I am available throughout the majority of the week! - Emsie Ross :)
