About Renee

I'm a fun, bubbly and passionate Malaysian Mandarin teacher who teaches CHILDREN, TEENAGERS and ADULTS!
My style of teaching is very flexible and the lesson can be tailored to your needs (speaking, reading, writing and even singing)!
I've learned Mandarin since I was a child and scored an A1 in the Malaysian Certificate of Education. I have also recorded songs and made videos suitable for children. I understand learning a foreign language can be daunting, but I'm here to support you and help you in a comfortable, fun yet relaxed setting to help you achieve that goal. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing the growth and the smiles of my students.

About the lesson

As a guide for children, I usually build their vocabulary through topics (eg: numbers, colours, festivals etc) and then tailor the lessons according to the student's interest and their level. Younger children learn well through fun activities such as:
1) Singing and movement activities
2) Games, stories
3) Sensory play / drawing activities

For teenagers: I use Chinese workbooks/powerpoint or help them with what they already learn in school to prepare for their exam (speaking / reading comprehension and listening)

I have done a lot of online teaching that works for the children and have also maintained a very close relationship with their parents. Some parents also learn together with their children.

For beginner adults: I use a PDF textbook/ workbook for the lesson and also powerpoint slides that I create to tailor to your needs. Or if you're looking for someone to practice your speaking skills, we can do that too!

Perfect! We found Renee to be a passionate teacher, well planned and well thought out. She asked a lot of questions related to the level of skills our kiddo has, in order to even just plan the trial lesson! She seems to spend a lot of effort to get to know her student, and this is much appreciated, as we have communicated with a few tutors / teachers on this platform, and found some not organized at all and focus felt lacking, but Renee's focus was on tailoring something suitable for each student, age and skill appropriate. So thank you for your fantastic effort spent with our kiddo and the passion you show for your craft. Kiddo was very engaged during your lesson, and asked when is the next session even!!

Highly recommended. Renee is a capable and dedicated teacher. She is observant and thinks of creative ways to engage our son including motivating him with superhero e-stickers. My son enjoys learning through playing games on kahoot! Due to the pandemic, most classes are done online. She is punctual and well-prepared. She tailors her lessons carefully and her lessons often revolve around daily life so he finds it relevant. She incorporates special occasions into her lessons to make it exciting for him (e.g. birthdays, Lunar New Year, Christmas etc). Renee is incredibly patient and paces her lessons to fit him. On occasion when a certain topic captivates him, she skillfully shifts the lesson to harness his attention. I’ve personally recommended Renee to my friends.

Details

For younger kids, I generally recommend 30-40 min to start (if through online) depending on their level ($40 per 40 min). However, cheaper rates are offered for a group class if you have someone else to bring to class together! Please get in touch for more information. I also schedule a call or provide a free 15-minute lesson to get to know the student better before we start our first proper lesson :)
