About Jorge
I approach drumming as physical clarity plus musical listening. I notice posture, stick height, and timing the way a mechanic notices which part is vibrating wrong. If one cue does not help, I switch: a different counting method, a quieter limb, a spoken rhythm, or a comparison between two grips or foot motions so you can feel which one stays relaxed under speed.
I am steady in the chair next to the kit—curious, direct, and patient with the ugly middle stages of coordination. I do not pretend independence appears overnight; I do insist that every session leaves you with a smaller, honest target. That tone fits a kid learning their first beat and a serious player cleaning a chart for a band.
My teaching personality is diagnostic without being cold. You will hear specific feedback—“your left foot arrives late only on the ‘and’ of two”—more often than generic praise or pressure. I want you to leave able to name your own weak limb and design a fix, because that is how drumming improves when no teacher is in the room.
A lesson with me feels organized and kinetic. You play a lot, stop at the real problem, fix one layer, then play music again. Expect less mystery and more usable structure around how the kit fits together.

In my drum lessons I treat coordination as a set of clear jobs, not a mysterious talent you either have or lack. If your hi-hat stays steady until the snare fill arrives, then the whole groove leans, we isolate that hand or foot, rebuild its pattern alone, and only then restack the other limbs. A beginner might learn a simple backbeat this way; a returning player might use it to clean ghost notes; an advanced student might apply it to odd meters or linear grooves. The shared skill is knowing which limb is lying to you.
Tempo problems get the same scrutiny. You can often play a groove slowly, yet the same three hits collapse the moment the click climbs. I find that exact bar, strip it to one limb, change the subdivision so the weak spot cannot hide, then rebuild. Sometimes we practice the groove with hands only, feet only, or with a quieter limb so listening stays ahead of muscle panic. Metronome work is purposeful: prove stability at a tempo, then raise it in small steps without letting the failure point sneak back in.
Groove and vocabulary stay tied to real music. Fills are not dumped as random chops; they are prepared as exits and re-entries into the pocket you already built. I often have you play a song’s feel first, then design a fill that answers the phrase instead of interrupting it. Children work with short loops and big, clear motions; teens and adults can dig into style details, dynamics, and more complex independence—still using the same “one job at a time” logic.
Between lessons you practice like a builder: isolate, prove, combine, then stress-test at tempo. You learn to hear when the kit is speaking clearly versus when one limb is guessing. That habit scales from first rock beats to demanding repertoire, and it keeps practice from becoming endless full-kit run-throughs that rehearse the mistake.
