About James

I am a Business and Management graduate with experience in corporate and international recruitment. During my degree I focused on the human aspects of business including motivational theory, human resource management, business philosophy and ethics, alongside functional business, and sales strategy. I am looking for the opportunity to help those struggling with both functional and esoteric business studies achieve their goals and learn that business is not just "bean counting" but is rather a human-centric endeavour.

About the lesson

In a word, personable. To properly teach is to know your students and without that connection learning is difficult. I want to know how you think so that I can best support you by explaining things in a way that works for you. From there we can identify the areas you may be struggling with and work through them at a pace and in a style that you find easiest to understand and engage with. Once we have the basics covered and I know exactly what level of education and curriculum you are working towards we can diversify your learning to keep things interesting. Business Studies isn't just accounting, basic strategy, and balance sheets, it is a diverse subject which can be explored in a myriad of ways.

Now don't get me wrong, I am here to support you however I can but that doesn't mean I will give you the answers to your college exams. I will likely ask you to work through the problem for yourself and we can discuss the conclusions you have come to and whether or not they are correct. Much of school is simply absorbing information and repeating in an exam, but this does not teach you to think or solve problems for yourself.
We will work together to walk you through that process of deduction and analysis so that, even if you are not well aware of the topic in question, you can apply these same skills and make an educated assumption as to the answer. This is the single most useful technique you can learn and more often than not by applying it you get the right answer.

I am happy to support students between Secondary School all the way up to University Entry, I am even happy to support Degree Level students if they need help understanding topics or would simply like a refresher on topics in the lead up to exams. (This is exactly what I was doing for my fellow students during the exam season when I was at university)

I realise a lot of what has been said above sounds quite dry but after a cup of tea and a biscuit, we should see eye to eye and hopefully we can change the way you think and improve your learning for the rest of your educational career. Best of luck.

Rates/Travel:
To keep things simple my rate is standardised regardless of level, travel, hosting, online, etc. If a larger degree of travel is required I may wish to discuss travel costs however, a good cup of tea and a biscuit will likely do the job.
If you would like to book multiple blocks or extended sessions I am happy to discuss a discount on the hourly rate to make things more economical. I'm here to help you after all, not to squeeze every last penny. :)

Cancellation:
Again to keep things simple I wont hold a cancellation policy for Online or Hosted tuition. I will however ask for some notice regarding At Home/Travelled tuition, as long as I know before I set off I'm happy. Lets say 1hour notice, varying depending on travel time.
