About Linyi

I'm a native Mandarin speaker from China, now based in the UK. Before moving here, I spent five years at Huawei in three different markets — pre-sales engineering in China, partner development in Singapore, and ecosystem strategy in Indonesia. Across all three roles, I worked daily across languages and cultures: explaining technical concepts to non-Chinese colleagues, negotiating with regional partners, and navigating the gap between how Chinese companies operate and how the rest of the world does.
I'm not a trained language teacher, and I won't pretend to be one. What I bring instead is years of real-world experience using Mandarin in business situations that textbooks rarely cover — writing pitch decks, running cross-cultural meetings, handling sensitive negotiations, and decoding the unspoken rules of Chinese tech culture.
I teach on Superprof because I genuinely enjoy helping people break through the gap between "I've studied Chinese" and "I can actually use Chinese at work." If that's where you're stuck, I think I can help.

About the lesson

My lessons are conversation-driven, not textbook-driven. Rather than walking through grammar chapters, we focus on the exact situations you need Mandarin for at work or in business.
What we'll cover (you choose the priority):

Business emails and WeChat messaging — how to write professionally, when to be formal vs. casual, common templates
Meetings and calls — negotiating, pushing back politely, clarifying, summarising decisions
Industry-specific vocabulary — I can build modules around AI, cloud, SaaS, e-commerce, or any tech sub-vertical you work in
Cultural context — how Chinese business communication differs from Western norms, what's implied vs. stated, how to read the room in cross-cultural meetings
Real document practice — bring your actual emails, pitch decks, or meeting notes, and we'll work on them together

Lesson format:
Each lesson is 60 minutes by default. A typical session: 5 min warm-up in Mandarin, 10 min reviewing last lesson's homework or a real document you've brought, 35 min focused work on your priority topic, 10 min wrap-up with practical homework you can use at work this week.
For complete beginners, the first few lessons focus on practical foundations — pinyin, tones, and survival phrases — before moving into business contexts.
