About Irene
I am an entrepreneur, consultant and researcher in business strategy and social investment market. Actually, I do my research in partnership with Centre of Applied Research in Management and Economics (CARME/ESTG/IPLeiria in Portugal), with Innovation Research Group (IBMEC-RJ in Brazil) and with the immigrant entrepreneurship research group at UFF (Universidade Federal Fluminense, Brazil). My PhD thesis was “Value creation according to the Portuguese social entrepreneurship business models”.
I’ve worked with several NGOs in Rio de Janeiro and had the opportunity to experience the difficulties that third sector organizations face to positively impact society. The dependence on donations and public grants limits their potential for value creation and increases their struggle for survival. The social entrepreneurship literature and the creation of ecosystems conducive to the development of the social economy are hopes for a more just and egalitarian society. It also represents business opportunities and socio-economic development through a value chain where the shared value is potentially superior.
I lectured at UFRJ - Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and at Castelo Branco University. I’ve been responsible for the implementation of an educational project that involved the application of Problem-based learning (PBL) in all 32 courses at Castelo Branco University.
I’ve worked as a consultant for more 15 years, in a great diversity of companies, with transdisciplinary projects. For instance, at Petrobras, I participated in reengineering, controlling, and obtaining certifications such as SA 8000 and PNQ award, implementation of new business model and process mapping. At Transpetro I worked on the development of a Knowledge Management methodology focused on maturity in engineering project management.
