About Rachel
I have spent the past five years as a middle school ELA teacher in Sacramento. Before that, I tutored elementary students through the Southeast San Diego tutoring program and refugee students from Myanmar through RefugeeNet. My love for teaching really began, though, at my kitchen table, where I helped my younger brother who struggled with a severe learning disability every night with his homework.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of San Diego. I graduated from the Honors program and magna cum laude. I will soon be transitioning out of a full-time role in the classroom in pursuit of a Master's Degree in English. I am eager to continue to work with students in a different capacity.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy going on hikes with my dog, Cordelia, and seeing films at my local indie movie theater. I'm looking forward to spending the summertime visiting my favorite beaches in California and attending outdoor concerts in the park.

I provide individualized lesson plans to meet students where they are at. We set short-term and long-term goals in our first sessions together, and each lesson builds towards those goals. I am intentional about getting to know students to ensure that the lesson materials are engaging and relevant.
All of my lessons are differentiated so that they are accessible to all students. I can assist students in any English Language Arts related content. I have worked with second graders in Phonics all the way through college students editing papers. I have experience working with students with various learning needs and English Language Learners. I am committed to making sure that every student I work with feels confident in their ability to read and write.
