About Lisa
I have been teaching Classical singing and opera for over 25 years, and currently teach undergraduates and postgraduates at Oxford University and Southampton University as well as at schools in Oxfordshire. I was both a choral and academic scholar at Cambridge University, and went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (MMus Voice and MPerf Opera), and the Cardiff International Academy of Voice, before completing an MA (Distinction) in Vocal Pedagogy in 2021. I have high-level international experience as a professional singer, touring the world with The Sixteen for many years before training as an opera singer, and singing for most of the UK's opera houses, including ENO, ROH, Scottish Opera and Opera North.

I have been teaching Classical singing for over 25 years, and currently teach choral scholars at Oxford University, as well as holding the post of Lecturer in Classical Voice at Southampton University. I have taught all ages from choristers to adults and MA (Performance) students. I believe that a firm foundation in Classical technique is vital to allow a student to use their voice healthily and expressively, whether that be in a choir, as a soloist or on the opera stage. Each student I teach is an individual, and I will tailor my teaching to their preferred learning style, using imagery, science, example, drawings, physical sensation and plenty of feedback to help my students to understand and therefore direct their own learning. My goal is to equip my students with enough knowledge and understanding that I make myself redundant! Past students of mine have been successful gaining places at Conservatoires and singing as choral scholars at Oxbridge. A large proportion of my students have gained First Class grades for their Performance degree exams. I also teach ABRSM and Trinity Grades. My lessons are online, making my timings very flexible, and I usually teach 45 minute or 1 hour lessons.
