About Sophie
I have an MPhil and a Double First BA Degree in Philosophy, both from the University of Cambridge. I taught Philosophy Undergraduate seminars at Cambridge on Ethics and Political Philosophy and have an excellent knowledge of all areas of Philosophy. I have helped students prepare for Cambridge University Admissions tests and interviews and Westminster School Admissions tests and interviews.
I have always enjoyed teaching, and have tutored for many years across many age groups. While at university I managed Schools Connect, a tutoring charity working with local schools. I coordinated over 80 tutors working across 20 different projects. I also tutored students, teaching English, Maths, Biology and French up to GCSE standard. I am also able to help students prepare for entrance examinations (11+, 13+, 16+).
I have an A star in Philosophy and Biology at A-Level and an A in Maths. I have an Intermediate (B1) qualification in French. I have 11 A stars at GCSE level including Maths, Further Maths, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and French.

I focus most on helping students to understand material, rather than focusing on learning. Once students understand the concepts they can figure things out for themselves rather than learning problems and techniques on a case by case basis.
I have found that the best approach is for students to work on material themselves before working on it together. This gives us a chance to understand how much they already know and to pinpoint areas they are struggling with. Then we can work on those areas, finding new ways to explain difficult ideas.
I've worked with students of a variety of ages, from primary school all the way through to university application. I am skilled at adapting my teaching style to the needs and interests of the student.
