About Denise

I am 20 years old and a first year (going onto second year) Biology student at the University of Cambridge.

I studied Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-Level.

I am excited to tutor because I understand that school can be intense at times so I want to provide an alternative yet enjoyable form of learning for other students going through what I went through! I have actually gotten some online tutoring myself too which helped me a bunch with my academic work. It was also really nice receiving teaching from people I could relate to more, closer to my age, and in a more casual and relaxed way so I hope to replicate that.

Whilst tutoring, I want to share all of the techniques that helped me when studying to make it easier for you guys. And even some of the mistakes I made and what to avoid :)
I am friendly and extroverted. As a student, it is important to feel comfortable in your learning environment for many reasons including so that you can ask questions without judgement -asking questions is key for your learning!

Also, I would love to generally just be there for any students that I tutor as school and life can be stressful, so if you need any study tips, or anything really, I'm here! And even if you need a pep talk because having confidence in yourself will make your academic journey so much easier.

About the lesson

My lessons will aim to provide a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding, working from the ground up. From years of studying, I believe this is the best approach that has worked for myself in order to memorise and learn information and then be able to recreate this during an exam.

Learning should be fun yet effective. Lessons will be catered to the subject and individual, using a variety of visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning approaches. For example, for Biology, visual learning has helped me yet mathematics often relies on a more active approach.

I follow the ordered structure of: explanation, practice questions and then feedback, but this can be adapted to the students needs. Also, together we will aim to strike a balance of participation between us depending on your needs on the day :)

I have months of experience tutoring GCSE Maths to a refugee where we worked through a language barrier. I also frequently tutor and mentor family and friends with their academic work.

My lessons are for all students in secondary school of any age or level. The lessons will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Students can let me know their exam board so that the teaching offered is specific to their specification.
