About Patrick

Hello! I’m Patrick, a Masters Student and PGCE Graduate of Science Education at Cambridge University, an Institute of Physics teaching scholar, and a Masters Graduate of Electronic Engineering from Durham University. I want to help you get the most out of these invaluable years of education by using my many years of both academic and teaching experience to help you achieve your goals! Tutoring is something I've always found exceptionally rewarding. I have been blessed with having a younger brother to mentor and assist throughout his academic journey, and have spent countless hours assisting friends from many different age groups with their academic problems and queries. Over the past few years, I have been fortunate enough to continue this fantastic pursuit as a professional tutor, delivering hundreds of hours of lessons and support in a range of subjects and age ranges, and aiding students of all attainment levels. I believe learning is best done inter-personally. While taught lessons and independent study are both important ways of achieving solid learning, the advantage of quality, face-to-face tutoring is absolutely indispensable. Lessons with me will take place in a friendly and supportive environment, heavily focused on the goals of the student both in terms of exam success and general mentorship for all future goals. I offer tuition in all Mathematics and Sciences subjects, for all levels between KS3 and A-Level (inclusive). I have experience teaching these subjects for every major UK exam board, as well as for the CIE and Edexcel international boards. Tuition at university level in Engineering and Physics up to 2nd year, and for admissions tests (such as the Oxford University Physics Aptitude Test) are also available on request. I look forward to working with you in the future!

About the lesson

How I Structure My Lessons Exploration and Understanding: I begin by introducing exam-style questions that are multifaceted and extensive, covering a whole topic within the subject area. Together, we unravel these questions step by step, ensuring complete comprehension. Visual Engagement: Utilising visual aids and live drawings, I vividly illustrate the problem-solving process. This multisensory approach not only clarifies complex concepts but also adds an engaging layer to the learning experience. Interactive Teaching: I encourage students to actively participate by working through questions together with me, allowing them to feel involved in the problem-solving process as opposed to being merely a passive observer. These personal insights serve as invaluable revision tools and constant reminders, reinforcing the understanding gleaned from each session. Assessing Progress At the start of each subsequent lesson, students answer a related question to demonstrate their grasp of the previous material. This ongoing assessment allows me to decide whether to introduce a new topic or to deepen understanding with further practice and exploration of the existing one. Why This Method Works What sets my approach apart is its focus on problem-solving from first principles. Instead of merely memorising answers, students build on their existing knowledge, cultivating a highly transferable skill that transcends subject boundaries. The result is not just better grades, but a more holistic, value-rich learning experience that equips students for future success.
