About Matilda
I have recently graduated with a 2.1 Philosophy degree from Cambridge University. At sixth form I studied Philosophy, History, Spanish, Literature, Physics, and Maths on the International Baccalaureate.
I am currently tutoring A Level Philosophy to a student for 2 hours per week and have helped her get to grips with key concepts and ideas, and given her the confidence to express her opinions. When we started our sessions she was not confident that she would pass her exams or even complete the course. She has seen improved results in class tests and mocks and is now aiming for a good grade in her exams.

I tutor up to A Level or IB in History and Philosophy. In addition, I tutor students from primary up to GCSE in English, Maths, and Science. I can help students with university applications including personal statements and Oxbridge preparation. I can conduct sessions online by webcab, at the student's house, or at another location (e.g. cafe, library).
My teaching methodology combines two key elements. Firstly, I am meticulous when it comes to ensuring my student is confident with the specified subject content and assessment criteria. My experience in one-on-one supervisions at Cambridge has honed my ability to break down and explain complex concepts and ideas and my success throughout my academic career is down to my essay writing skills and revision techniques. I know content can seem overwhelming and therefore focus on breaking it down into manageable chunks and working with students to establish a revision strategy that works for them.
Secondly, I work by using our discussions to draw out what is interesting about the subject matter and encouraging my students to think for themselves to analyse arguments.
I treat students as individuals, structuring lesson plans around their particular needs, goals, strengths, and interests. Depending on these factors, a typical lesson might include a combination of: teaching content from scratch or consolidating; teaching exam skills and revision techniques; using visual aids, diagrams, and analogies to elucidate ideas; note making; discussion; getting the student to explain ideas in their own words; small tests; writing tasks; and revision exercises.
