I am here to help you learn Irish in a fun and engaging environment.

Using interactive methods we will work together to get you speaking Irish as quickly as possible!

I focus my lessons on children and younger teens who want to break down the language and make it as straightforward as possible.

About the lesson

I use interactive methods that allow students to begin speaking as soon as possible. We will start with basic conversations and then learn just enough vocabulary and grammar to quickly read and write simple texts preparing the student to functionally use Gaeilge. For all students, I provide my own material, personalised to reflect the content of each specific class.

For children in 4th and 6th class, I work to both consolidate the national school curriculum and prepare for secondary school. I like to begin at the very beginning of the language moving as slow or as fast as required by the student to build a solid base. This strong foundation allows for increasing confidence using the language, and removes the 'fear factor' experienced by many language learners.

For those in 1st and 2nd year, we will begin to cover the vocabulary and grammar needed for the Junior Cycle Exam. I like to cover grammar, reading, listening, and writing in each class as each skill complements the next.

I achieved a H1 in Irish in the Leaving Certificate, and an A in the Junior Certificate. I also have attended the Gaeltacht many times to achieve conversational fluency in the language. Furthermore, my degree in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from the University of Cambridge means that I am able to bring a greater depth of knowledge of the linguistics underpinning the language as I took exams in Advanced Medieval Irish Language and Literature, and Celtic Philology. Having a thorough understanding of how Gaeilge developed into its current form allows me to really break down grammar concepts and common words so that they can be understood by anyone. I have experience in teaching languages to dyslexic students, and I am happy to adjust my lessons to suit each student.
