About Jack
I am a University of Cambridge Mathematics graduate with a professional background in Software Engineering. I have always had a genuine passion for teaching and find it incredibly rewarding to help students work through challenging concepts and reach their goals.
I really love the subject, and my motivation as a tutor is to share that enthusiasm while helping you achieve the results you need. I believe that high-level mathematics is about understanding, strategy and
intuition, not just memorisation. My goal is to move students away from rote learning and towards
the first-principles thinking required for A* grades and university entrance.
Because maths can be an intimidating subject, I prioritise creating a safe,
supportive environment where it is okay to be stuck. I find that the most
valuable learning happens when we work together to deconstruct the hardest parts of a problem
together, whether that's a GCSE algebra question or a STEP complex numbers
question.
The sessions are interactive and focused on active problem-solving rather than
passive lecturing. We use a shared digital whiteboard so we can both draw and
write in real-time. I try to provide the smallest possible hint or a
different logical perspective to help the student find the solution themselves, as this the only way to
build the genuine "mathematical intuition" and confidence needed for exam
success. For those sitting university entrance exams like STEP,
I also layer in specific strategies like question selection to help you
maximise your score.
After every session, I export the shared board as a PDF
for you to keep. So you can stay fully engaged in problem-solving
during the lesson without needing to take notes at the same time.
