I'm Ross, a professional economist with a Cambridge MPhil in Economics (Distinction) and a First Class MA in Financial Economics from St Andrews. I currently work in macroeconomic forecasting, so I bring real-world applications into every lesson — economics isn't just theory in a textbook, it's how the world actually works.
I tutor economics at every level. For A-level and IB students, I focus on building strong economic intuition, clear diagram work and structured essay technique that examiners reward.
For undergraduate and postgraduate students, I cover microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, international trade, international macroeconomics, industrial organisation, monetary economics and public economics — helping you move beyond memorisation towards the kind of analytical thinking that earns firsts and distinctions.
My approach is simple: I meet you where you are and build from there. Every student learns differently, so I tailor each session rather than following a rigid script. Typically I start by identifying where you're stuck or uncertain, then work through the concept together using a mix of explanation, worked examples and practice problems. I ask a lot of questions — not to test you, but because explaining your reasoning back to me is the fastest way to find and fix gaps in understanding. My goal is for you to leave each session thinking more clearly about the topic than when you arrived.
Lessons are typically one hour. I teach online via Zoom or in person, and I'm flexible on scheduling.
Whether you're an A-level student aiming for top grades, an undergraduate preparing for exams, or a postgrad wrestling with econometrics at midnight — I can help.
