About Daniela

Hello there! My name is Dani. I'm a second year student at the University of Cambridge, and have taught over 470 lessons to students just like you. My course is a brilliant one, because it really allows each student to study a course specified to their own interests, by choosing their own modules. In my case, I study neurobiology, cell and developmental biology and experimental psychology. I have also undertaken a placement at a national lab, and from the work I completed, was able to achieve co-authorship on a published scientific paper. I know how scary exams can seem, it's incredibly daunting to think that your entire future may be dictated by a test taken before you're legally an adult. I've been there, and done it, and as long as you know you've given it your best shot, you've got nothing to worry about. Try to think of exams as an opportunity for leaning about things! When I'm not doing science, I'm dancing on the University team, doing latin and ballroom dancing (Think strictly!). Hopefully I can be the right person to help you achieve your goals and learn more about science!

About the lesson

Each lesson would be individually tailored to the student's needs; Prior to the booking, I would ask the student to send a short list of one or two topics they are currently needing a bit more help with. From this information, I would then build a lesson plan to focus on those topics in detail. I will spend the first half of the lesson guiding the student through these topics and also linking the subject matter to some contextual material. Knowing enough information to pass exams is necessary, but dull, and researching how the science I was learning was relevant to real life is a technique I used throughout school to gain understading. The second half of the lesson would be a guided walkthrough of some exam-style, or past exam questions, consolidating the earlier work. Practice does make perfect, and knowing how to best answer the questions is also an important aspect in doing well in exams. By practicing and honing these techniques as early as possible, the student will be able to get a real feel for how to begin to structure their answers to these questions in both schoolwork and in the exams. To make sure that nothing is forgotten, after the lesson I will then compile a 'summary' of the lesson and send it via message, along with the answers to any burning questions a student may have had that I was unable to answer on the spot.
