About Betty Kate

Hello prospective students! My name is Elizabeth, but I go by Betty Kate most of the time. I'm a student in the Cambridge program with a passion for learning and teaching. For most of my life, I hated math. My teachers were always disappointed when their 'gifted' student failed miserably at multiplication, having to count on her fingers despite being in 5th grade. I remember the stress when I was handed a sheet of multiplication and the shame when I got told that failing at "multiply faster than a 5th grader" made me stupid. I hated math because I thought I was bad at it, because I thought being slow and asking questions made me less smart. So what changed my mind? In middle school, an amazing teacher taught me that being slow doesn't mean I'm stupid or bad at math, it just meant I was more cautious and made fewer mistakes. She taught me that asking questions meant I was paying attention and soaking up more information. Now I'm an A student in advanced mechanics classes, thriving because I have the tools and skills to do so. Since I've gained so much from this learning, I feel like it's my duty to provide that same opportunity to others like me. About the lesson

By applying modern techniques approved by leading psychologists and teaching experts, I can help you get the most out of your academic career. Lessons will begin with an assessment of student's prior knowledge, moving onto analyzing and addressing problem areas, before finishing off with useful drills and a recap on what was learned during the session. As a student in a highly rigorous program myself, I understand the stress that my students are under and I'm willing to offer patience, understanding and usable insight not only on math, but also on study skills, homework habits and planning. I'm prepared to assist with all skill levels from basic arithmetic to precalculus and I have experience working with non-neurotypical students.
